Coaching
What it is...
-
Coaching is a focused series of conversations that support change, growth, and action.
-
Each conversation is about you, with the goal of building self-awareness, understanding choices and bridging the gap between where you are now and the vision you have for your future.
-
It is an equal partnership between us (coach and client).
-
There is an assumption that you are resourceful and capable - not 'broken' or in need of 'fixing.'
-
Progress comes from skilled questioning and self-discovered insight vs. advice or guidance.
What it is not...
-
Therapy, which focuses on a patient's mental health, involves specific education and expertise, and often emphasizes looking to the past to explain the present. Coaching instead assumes robust mental health, emphasizes an equal partnership, and focuses largely on the present and future.
-
Mentoring, which usually involves someone more senior and experienced passing along advice and tips to help the mentee develop confidence and specific career skills.
-
Consulting, which typically relies on using technical expertise to gather and analyze data, solve problems, and make recommendations.

"Gabriele's greatest gift and challenge to me was in forcing me to come to my own conclusions and action plans. She asked the right thought-provoking questions and always validated my feelings - but never imposed her opinion in the process. While I may have craved the direct guidance in the moment, looking back I see that all along Gabriele was teaching me to become my own greatest advocate and supporter. I now have the tools I need to help myself at times when I don't have Gabriele around. I could not imagine a better outcome."
